You Were Never Meant to Blend In

Trying to fit in can feel like the most important thing when you're a teenager. School, sports, friendships, and social media all seem to tell you that acceptance comes from looking, acting, and thinking like everyone else. But Psalm 40:3 reminds us that God gives His people a "new song"—a transformed life that points others to Him instead of blending into the crowd. Have you ever felt like you had to become someone else just to be accepted? Different clothes, different language, different opinions, different values. Here's the question. What if fitting in is the very thing keeping you from becoming who God created you to be? Welcome to the Intentional Grounding Godcast Letters to Isaiah. I'm your faith strategist, Coach Dombrowski, and I'm here to help you live out your walk, not just to believe it. And today we're talking about why God didn't design you to copy the crowd and how your faith can actually become the thing that inspires other people to stand up too. Well, if you've ever looked around school or work, sports or social media and wondered why it seems like everyone has life figured out except you, God has something to say about that. So David had experienced incredible highs and heartbreaking lows. He had been hunted, rejected, misunderstood. Yet after God rescued him, David didn't keep quiet. Instead, he wrote something powerful. Psalm 40, verse 3. And it says, He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Powerful. Well, the phrase, a new song, wasn't simply about music. Throughout scripture, a new song represented a new testimony, a fresh work that God had done in someone's life. Now, David isn't talking about becoming famous. He's talking about becoming transformed. And notice something else. David didn't say people would be impressed with him. He said they would begin trusting God. That's the goal. When God changes your life, your story becomes evidence that he is still working today. Teenagers today, they live in one of the hardest generations when it comes to comparison. Every scroll tells you that you're behind. Every trend, it tells you to change. Every group seems to have rules about who belongs. And here's the problem: if you're constantly changing yourself to fit everyone else's expectations, you'll eventually lose sight of who God says you are. The crowd changes every week. God's truth never changes. You don't have to wear what everyone wears. You don't have to believe what everyone believes. You don't have to laugh at things that dishonor God just because everybody else does. Sometimes following Jesus means standing alone before you ever stand with others. But here's the incredible part people they respect authenticity far more than imitation. Someone in your school, someone on your team, in your workplace may secretly be looking for one person with enough courage to live differently. Your faith might become the permission that they need to stop pretending to. So the next time you're tempted to stay quiet because you're afraid people might judge you, ask yourself Am I trying to fit into the crowd or stand with Christ? That question will change an entire decision. And maybe you're listening to this today because you're tired of being exhausted from trying to be accepted. You've changed your personality, you've changed your language, you've changed your priorities, you've changed your convictions, and somehow you still don't feel like you belong. Well, maybe that's because God never designed your identity to come from the approval of people. Stop asking, how do I fit in? The real question is, how can I faithfully stand out? There's a huge difference. This week, try it. Do three simple things spend five minutes each day reading God's word before opening up your socials. Refuse to compromise one conviction just to gain approval and encourage one person who seems left out. You know exactly what that feels like. When you become the one who includes others, instead of chasing acceptance, you're beginning to look more like Jesus. The more your confidence comes from Christ, the less you'll need validation from everybody else. Eventually, people won't remember you because you followed every trend. They'll remember you because you stood for something that never changed. But what does it mean for you tomorrow? Well, you're gonna have opportunities to laugh at something, to join a conversation, to follow a trend, or to make a decision. But before you do, ask yourself one question. Does this help me look more like Jesus or just more like everyone else? I think if you pause and ask that question, may completely change your day. One of the biggest lies teenagers hear today is this if people don't accept you, something must be wrong with you. The Bible tells a different story. Jesus himself wasn't accepted by everyone. Neither were the apostles, neither was David, neither were the prophets. Faithfulness has never been measured by popularity. In fact, the people God used most often were willing to stand apart before they were ever celebrated. You don't need thousands of followers. You need one faithful heart that belongs completely to God. When God gives you that new song, people notice not because you're trying to be different, but because you've genuinely been changed. Your peace, kindness, and integrity and courage becomes a testimony that points beyond yourself. As Psalm 43 says, your transformed life can lead others to trust the Lord. You weren't created to disappear into the crowd. You were created to reflect Christ in a world desperately searching for something real. And to my grandson Isaiah, as you grow older, there will be moments when you'll feel pressure to fit in. Some people will tell you to change so they'll accept you. Others may laugh when you choose what's right instead of what's popular. And I hope you remember this. Your worth isn't measured by how many people approve of you. It's measured by the God who created you and calls you his own. Don't spend your life chasing acceptance from people whose opinions change every day. Chase the one whose love never changes. And if your life points even one person towards Jesus, you've accomplished something greater than popularity could ever give you. And I pray that you have the courage to stand out, not for attention, but because your heart belongs to Christ. I love you more than words can say. Love, Jaji. God didn't create you to blend into the crowd. He created you to shine with the hope he's placed inside of you.
