When Creation Becomes Your Teacher

What if one of the greatest sermons ever preached wasn't delivered by a prophet, a pastor, or a king? What if it was preached by the birds in the sky, the animals in the field, or the fish in the sea? Job says, sometimes the evidence of God is so obvious that all of creation is pointing toward Him while humanity is too distracted to notice. And today we're going to discover why Job tells us to look at creation, what creation teaches us about God, and how paying attention can deepen our faith in ways that we have maybe even overlooked. Welcome to the Intentional Grounding Godcast Letters to Isaiah. And I'm here to help you live out your walk, not just believe it. So, y'all, the book of Job, man, it is remembered for suffering, for loss, and difficult questions. But in chapter 12, Job pauses to remind his friends that the wisdom of God is visible everywhere, not just in scripture, not just in the miracles, but through the creation itself. So this focus scripture that we're going to go through today is Job 12, verse 7 and 8. And it says, But ask the animals and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky and they will tell you, or speak to the earth and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Now, Job is responding to friends who think they have all of the answers. All right. They are speaking as if they alone understand God's ways. Job is essentially saying, listen, you don't need human wisdom to know that God is real. Look around. Creation itself is teaching the lesson, right? The word teach, it appeared repeatedly. You know, Job presents this, presents creation as the witness. Not the not that we have animals that actually speak words. Well, there was a donkey, but that their existence, the design, order, and and the survival, they point to a creator. Okay. Creation testifies. Creation it reveals, it teaches. Okay. It reveals God's power, doesn't it? Every sunrise, every ocean wave, every newborn child, every living creature. None of it happened by accident. Creation displays incredible order, complexity, and purpose. Even Romans 1, it tells us that God's invisible qualities are clearly seen through what he had made. And Job understood this long before Paul ever wrote those words. You know, when we study creation, we see fingerprints of the creator, right? It creation reveals God's provision. The birds, they find food, the animals, they find shelter. The earth, it produces what's needed for life. And Jesus later on builds upon this same truth when he says to consider the birds of the air. And creation reminds us that God is not just powerful, he's attentive, and he sustains what he creates. Right? It also reveals God's consistency. You know, the the seasons that come, the tides move, the stars, they remain, you know, in their courses. The day follows night, night follows day. God built order into creation. That means when life feels chaotic, that God's character has not changed. The same God who sustains the universe is still sustaining you. You know, spend 10 minutes outside this week and just observe. No scrolling, no multitasking. I mean, just look, listen, and watch and ask yourself, wow, what does this really reveal about God? And man, you may be surprised by what creation begins teaching your heart. All right. I mean, there are so many people today that feel disconnected from God because they're searching for him only in those dramatic emergency moments, right? Sometimes God speaks to us through the ordinary things, through a sunrise, through a storm, or a bird building a nest, or a tree standing through another season, right? Or a hurricane. I mean, creation constantly points beyond itself to its creator, right? So we need to stop asking the questions of, well, why don't I see God working? And start asking, where did you stop looking? You know, where have I stopped looking? Because creation has never stopped testifying, right? We have to slow down long enough to observe and really be able to practice gratitude for what God has made. You know, let creation remind you of God's faithfulness, you know, and connect what you see in creation to what you know from scripture. And I think the more that you do that, the more you'll be to see God's hand in everything. You know, you'll begin to develop a deeper awareness of God's presence, not because life becomes easier, right? But because you'll start recognizing evidence of Him in places that you may have overlooked, right? The faith that we have grows when awareness grows. You know, so before you start checking your phone, look outside, take a minute, you know, notice one thing in creation, and then say, Well, what does this teach me about God today? Let creation become your first reminder of God's faithfulness. You know, one reason of our faith why it can feel dry is really because we've become disconnected from the wonder. We analyze everything, we explain everything, we rush past everything, and scripture it tells us over and over again to notice. Like it literally invites us to notice, right? The heavens they declare God's glory, the earth reveals his handiwork. Creation is not God, but creation points to God. Every mountain points upward, every ocean points deeper, every sunrise points towards renewal, and every season points towards purpose. Creation becomes a daily invitation to remember that God is still active, he's still sustaining, he's still in control, right? The world around us is filled with reminders of his presence if we're willing to just pay attention. You know, long after today's worries are forgotten, y'all know God's creation will still be declaring his glory. The question isn't whether creation is speaking, the question is whether or not we're listening. Now, to my grandson Isaiah, one day you're gonna see birds flying overhead. You'll see fish swimming beneath the water and trees reaching towards the sky. And I hope you remember what Job understood. Creation isn't random, it points to the God who made it all. And if God is powerful enough to sustain the world around you, he's powerful enough to sustain you too. So whenever life feels confusing, have a look around. Creation still tells the story of its creator. I love you, buddy. As deep as the oceans. Listen, imagine you're standing on a beach watching the waves roll in. I can almost hear them. You didn't create the ocean. You don't control the tide, but every single wave reminds you that there is a God greater than you and faithful beyond your understanding. That's what Job was teaching. Creation points us towards the creator. So today, slow down and notice what God has already placed around you. It might be teaching you more than you realize.
