What God Sees That Everyone Else Misses

Have you ever looked at someone and immediately made an assumption about them? Or maybe you've been the one overlooked because you didn't fit somebody else's expectations? But what if I told you that some of the people that God wants to use the most are really the people the world notices the least? And what if the greatest thing about you isn't something that anyone can see? Well, today we're going to discover why God evaluates people differently than we do, why our heart matters more than your appearance, accomplishments, or your reputation, and how this truth can completely change the way you see yourself and everyone else around you. Now, today's scripture takes place during a pivotal moment in Israel's history. King Saul had been rejected because of his repeated disobedience, and God sent the prophet Samuel to anoint Israel's next king. So Samuel arrives at Jesse's house and begins evaluating Jesse's sons. The oldest son, Eliab, looked exactly like Samuel expected a king to look like tall, strong, impressive, leader material. But God had something to say. All right. Imagine standing inside that room for a second. Honestly, Samuel is God's prophet, and he's looking at Jesse's sons one by one, right? And the obvious choice appears to Eliab, right? If there were a vote that day, Eliab probably wins unanimously. Yet God's choice wasn't standing in the room. His choice was still outside tending to sheep. The forgotten son, the overlooked, the youngest son, David. And then God reveals a principle that still applies today. So 1 Samuel 6, verse 7 says, But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. Now, the key word here, heart. In Hebrew, the word translated heart is Lebab. It refers to much more than emotions. The heart represented a person's character, their intentions, their thoughts, their desires, their motives, their will. And when God looks at the heart, he's examining who we truly are when nobody else is watching. Okay? Now, historically here, Israel had already experienced what happens when people choose leaders based primarily on appearance. Saul looked like a king. Scripture tells us he stood head and shoulders above everyone else. On the outside, yeah, he checked every box. On the inside, pride, disobedience began to grow. And God was teaching Israel a lesson. A strong appearance can hide a weak heart. All right. The original audience would have understood that kings were often chosen because of military strength, family, status, appearance, influence, right? God intentionally chose David to demonstrate that his kingdom operates differently than human systems. All right. Now, we all know God values character above charisma, right? Faithfulness above fame and obedience above popularity, humility above status. God is far more concerned with who you're becoming than how impressive you appear. Okay. This verse does not mean appearance is completely irrelevant. That's not what it says at all. It means appearance is never God's primary concern. Right? God doesn't ignore the outside. He just simply refuses to prioritize it over the condition of the heart. Now, the first point I want to make here is God sees what nobody else sees. Right? People see your failures. God sees your growth. Okay. People see a resume. God sees your character. People see your current circumstances. God sees your future calling. Okay. David looked like a shepherd boy. God saw a king. So the lesson in it is never allow people's opinions to become greater than God's perspective. Now, the second point that I want to make here is eventually the heart reveals itself. You can fake appearance, you can fake image, you can fake reputation, uh, reputation, but eventually your heart's gonna show up, and what is inside eventually comes out through your words, your decisions, right? Your actions, your relationships. Okay. That's why Proverbs says everything flows from the heart, because the condition of your heart determines the direction of your life. The third point here is God is more interested in preparation than promotion. All right. David wasn't immediately placed on the throne. He he returned to the sheepfields, all right? Because God was developing the heart before he delivered the assignment. You know, a lot of people they want promotion. God wants preparation. A lot of people want recognition and God wants transformation. A lot of people want visibility, but God wants faithfulness. So ask yourself, I mean, what am I spending more time developing? Is it my image or is it my heart? Am I more concerned with how people see me or how God sees me? You know, this week, I don't spend intentional time asking God to reveal any area of your heart that needs growth. All right. And somebody listening today, you feel overlooked, and I get it. You feel like everyone else is getting opportunities, everyone else is being noticed, everyone else is being chosen. Meanwhile, you're in your own version of David's sheep field. Right? Here's what you need to hear. God knows exactly where you are. He hasn't forgotten your address, he hasn't misplaced your calling, and he hasn't overlooked your faithfulness. Okay. Stop asking, why don't people see me? And start asking, is God developing me? Because when God develops the heart, he can trust you with what comes next. All right. So how do you make the change? Well, you spend more time with God than with the public opinion. You know what I'm saying? Seek God's approval first and then pray for a clean heart, right? Ask God to expose pride, bitterness, envy, self-ambition, and stay faithful in the small assignments, right? You have to go back to David. David was faithful with sheep before he was trusted with a kingdom, okay? And measure your character more than success. Focus on becoming the person God wants you to become. You know, and if you continue allowing God to shape your heart, you'll become more grounded, more humble, more faithful, and more prepared for whatever He places in front of you. In one day, you're going to realize something very powerful. The season that felt hidden was actually preparation. Okay. So before you walk into work, when you step into a meeting, when you serve your family, when nobody notices your effort, remember this: God does. The one whose opinion matters the most sees every act of faithfulness. Okay. One of the greatest dangers in our culture today is believing that visibility equals value. Social media rewards visibility. The workplace rewards visibility. Politics, culture, right? They all reward visibility, but the kingdom rewards faithfulness. David was valuable before he was visible, and so are you, right? The world says, show me your platform. God says, show me your heart. Our world says, build your audience. And God says, no, build your character. Right? We don't need to be impressive. We need to be faithful. Never confuse public recognition with spiritual significance. Right? Some of God's greatest work happens in those hidden places. Right? Long after appearance fades, long after titles disappear, long after accomplishments are forgotten, the condition of your heart will still matter because God isn't building resumes, He's building disciples. Now, to my grandson Isaiah, one day you're going to live in a world that constantly encourages people to judge others based on appearance, popularity, success, and status. But I pray that you remember what God taught Samuel. Buddy, we just watched this movie the other day together. You were only two, right? Look deeper. See people the way God sees people. Treat people with dignity because every person carries value and never believe you're insignificant because somebody overlooks you. The same God who saw David in the field, he sees you too, buddy. I love you. I mean, imagine, guys, a shepherd boy standing in a field while everyone else is being considered for the biggest opportunity of their lives. Nobody called him, nobody expected him, nobody even noticed him, but God did. So today remember this: God is far more concerned with the condition of your heart than the image you present to the world. Stay faithful where you are. Let him develop your character. Trust his timing and know that the God who found David in the field still sees you exactly where you are today. Well, I would love to hear from you guys what hit you the hardest today.
